Yanni Bravo, Recording Artist & Fashion Model

Yanni Bravo, Recording Artist & Fashion Model. Interview conducted by Tony Kariotis of GreekPosts.com

Tell me a little about yourself!

I was born and raised in Massachusetts. My dad came over from Athens when he was 17 and met my mom in New York. They eventually landed in Boston. I grew up writing poetry and eventually shifted my focus towards songwriting and music. Now I'm a recording artist/model with local success looking to break into the international mainstream.

What does being Greek mean to you?

Lots of food and living life to the fullest.

What makes you proud calling yourself Greek?

The way Greek's know how to live. When I go to Greece, I feel like I could stay and never look back. Spending my summers in Greece, I learned how to live in the moment and gained a true appreciation for life and living that I had never experienced before.

What inspired you to start your career in music and modeling?

The first record I ever remember buying was the Beatles '1' album. It was a compilation album of their greatest hits, and I remember playing the songs back to back to back until I had every melody and lyric completely memorized. From that point on I always had an insatiable affinity for music. My dad used to bring me back cds from Greece with the year's top hits. I grew up listening to Mazonakis, Sfakianakis, Vertis, Petrelis, Vitali and many more. Finally one day, when I was about 13/14, my cousin set up a studio at his house and showed me how to use the microphone. I remember he helped me record a song that we uploaded to Myspace, and that was it for me. From that day on I was writing lyrics and melodies preparing myself for the next time I'd get a chance to get time in the studio.

The modeling on the other hand came somewhat naturally along with the music. I always had an interest in fashion, and as my music career began to grow, so did the opportunities to get in front of the camera and on the runway.. and I just ran with it.

What is one of the coolest moments you've experienced so far as a music artist?

One of my coolest moments would definitely have to be when they spun one of my records, Buxxx It Down, at Akanthus -- one of the biggest night clubs in Athens, this last summer.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Topping the American/Greek Billboard charts and touring internationally.

How often do you get to visit Greece? Where do you stay!?

I try to get back there every summer; I like dive into the music scene and get back to my roots. Whenever I do get the chance to go I usually stay in Athens (Varkiza area) for a few weeks and then break for the islands in August.

Thanks for your time Yanni!! We look forward to seeing what you come up with soon!!

Thanks for the opportunity. Big Luxway
